Elements of "Rear Window" and "Psycho" are evident and then some in this. Michelle Pfeiffer more or less dominates in this film carrying it from start to finish in one of her careers most exciting performances during what is arguably the peak of her box office reign. Harrison Ford reveals another side of him in this character that makes you question whether he's good or bad. This was also the height of his fame as well. This film had two major stars in a huge blockbuster sharing the screen together, which was rare then and even rarer now since there really aren't movie stars of that caliber anymore. Also rare to have gifted actors in a scary picture together. Usually it's filled with bad actors giving redundant generic performances as teenagers, so this film is another reason to watch to see how the pros do it. There are moments that the camera seems to follow the actors around for quite some time before cutting, which is also rare considering that doing something like that can only work when you have two major actor players who are the real deal doing it. Claire's life is a void without her daughter and a recent auto crash has her husband and friends questioning her sanity. Pfeiffer has a truely beautiful face and I had to admire her good looks. She puts the viewer in a trance. Her acting skill meets the challenge as she must walk a tight line of uncertainty while getting clues there is a presence in her house. All the while everybody involved thinks she is nuts. Shaken by recent events Clair wonders if everyone is right. Ford is really good in this film. As an actor he has mastered emotionalism down to every expression of anxiety, anger, and guilt on his face. I could go on and on about the EXCELLENCE of this movie. But instead I will avoid cerebral insights masking the creepy "jump back in your seat" moments and really encourage everyone NOT to miss this little masterpiece!
